How to Check and Maintain Tire Pressure

July 22nd, 2024 by

Whether your car features an automatic Mazda tire pressure display or you need to do it manually with a pressure gauge, checking and maintaining pressure is a simple and essential part of car maintenance. If your tires are having trouble maintaining pressure, have our service team at Freysinger Mazda perform an inspection today!

Automatic Tire Pressure Monitoring

Some new models, like the 2024 Mazda CX-90, feature an automatic tire pressure monitoring system. Navigate to the Tire Pressure Management System page on your Driver Information Display to see tire pressure at a glance. The low tire pressure warning will also alert you to dangerously low pressure. You’ll still need to inflate and deflate the tires manually, however.

Manual Tire Pressure Monitoring

If your model doesn’t feature the Tire Pressure Management System, you’ll have to use a pressure gauge. Test out each tire by unscrewing the cap on the air valve, then connecting the gauge to the plug. To ensure accurate results, you should only check the tires of a “cold” car, making morning before you head out for the day a great time.

Adjusting Tire Pressure

Releasing air from your tires is simple: press the pin in the air pump with the bead on your air pressure gauge or another thin tool. You’ll either need an air compressor of your own or use a public one, like at a gas station. Connect the pump to the air pump, add a small amount of air, and then test again until you’re in the proper range.
